The best Yu-Gi-Oh! Era came to an end yesterday...

...and it was epic.

5D's was, IMO, the best show of the 3. The protagonist actually used good cards and good strategies, unlike Judai, who was loaded with situational crap. At the beginning, I thought "OMGZ CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES OH CRAP". Now, I'm like "OMGZ 5D'S DON'T END PLEASE". I'm sure most of you feel the same way, because seeing cards like Shooting Star Dragon, Red Nova Dragon and Junk Warrior was awesome.

Wait.

Junk Warrior?

Yes, Junk Warrior my friend!

Junk Warrior
Warrior/Synchro/Effect
DARK/5*/ATK 2300 DEF 1300
"Junk Synchron" + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned, it gains ATK equal to the total ATK of all Level 2 and lower monsters you control.

I guess you're thinking "LOL no, there are better Synchros". Maybe true, but this card is outstanding because:
  • Art is amazing
  • DARK
  • Warrior
  • Gains a ridiculously high ATK on its dedicated deck
  • Yusei card
  • Had the most epic revenge of all time
  • Has it's own OTK
The best deck to run this is Junk Wetlands. The build should look like this:

By .Kowalski

17
-----Level 1-4

3 Dupe Frog
3 Junk Synchron
3 Star Boy
3 Submarine Frog
3 Swap Frog
1 Effect Veiler
1 Sangan

18
3 Moray of Greed
3 Pot of Duality
3 Terraforming
3 Tuning
3 Wetlands
1 Dark Hole
1 Giant Trunade
1 Monster Reborn

5
2 Solemn Warning
1 Mirror Force
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Torrential Tribute

3
3 Junk Warrior

This deck basically works by maxing out the ATK of your LVL 2 Aqua monsters with Wetlands + Star Boy and summoning Junk Warrior for a potential 8000+ ATK game winner/OTKer. Plus, since the only 2 monsters on this deck that are not LVL 2 are Junk Synchron, Effect Veiler and Sangan, so your Tuner will almost always have targets to SS from the graveyard. It's not the most competitve deck, but is very very fun.

Like a boss - T.G. Hyper Librarian

T.G. Hyper Librarian
DARK/Spellcaster - Synchro - Effect/5/2400/1800
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
While this card is face-up on the field, each time a Synchro Monster(s) is Synchro Summoned, draw 1 card for each.

Konami pretty much screwed up with wording. That aside, it's an epic card. Much better replacement for Catastor, though some people still might preffer to use it. Anyways, this is broken with Synchro Spamming decks, like Junk Doppel, Cloudians etc. Level 5 Spellcaster also makes Supreme Arcanite Decks much more consistent, as you can Junk Synchron + Synchro Fusionist for this, grab Miracle Synchro Fusion, be happy. Seriously, do I even have to tell more about this? Even at the first glance, you can tell its awesome.

See ya 4Kids! You won't butcher 5D's any longer!

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/612092-yu-gi-oh-5ds-world-championship-2011-over-the/58622738

"Anime fans have long had disdain for 4Kids Entertainment and its head honcho, but they're not the only ones as the Hollywood Reporter has word that the deal the Japanese have had with the company for Yu-Gi-Oh! has been terminated and a multi-million dollar lawsuit has been opened against them.

"[T]he Japanese animation studio that first created the anime hits is attacking, claiming that 4Kids owes it millions of dollars for making secret agreements with TV networks and home video distributors as well as making improper royalty deductions, including for the cost of the actual dubbing. As the result of alleged contractual breaches, the Japanese companies behind the show reveal they have just terminated their licensing agreements with 4Kids. They now want past money owed too."

TV Tokyo and Nihon Ad Systems have failed their suit in New York's federal court system. The piece provides some interesting examples and highlight's FUNimation's apparent role in it as well as indicating that Cartoon Network and others were caught up in the questionable deals that 4Kids Entertainment made.

For example, 4Kids is said to have made an agreement with Funimation Productions, giving it the right to exploit the YGO series on home video. "4Kids conspired with Funimation to fraudulently hide from Plaintiffs more than 45% of the total income Funimation paid to 4Kids from the sale of the home videos," the complaint states.

Allegedly, 4Kids not only licensed YGO, but also several other Japanese animation series it didn't own. Under the terms of this supposedly secret deal, which allegedly included a strict confidentiality clause, 4Kids didn't have to do much besides perform certain marketing services. It was Funimation's job to produce and distribute the series, and for this right, Funimation paid a $1.3 million advance and gave over nearly $3 million in revenue, which was allegedly then hidden from the plaintiffs.

Attempts at getting things ironed out between the Japanese licensers and 4Kids did not go well when 4Kids abruptly terminated a meeting with them which had TV Tokyo and Nihon Ad Systems canceling the agreements that were in place and filing a $4+ million dollar lawsuit for breach of contract and damages."

What to say... except "FINALLY!"?

Crimson Blader

Today's episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's showed us a new Synchro that, at least in the anime, is generic. It's similar to Colossal Fighter in stats and summoning condition, but the effects are totally different. Let's take a closer look:

Crimson Blader
Warrior/Synchro/Effect
FIRE/8*/ATK 2800 DEF 2600
When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle, your opponent cannot Summon during their next turn.

This is an astonishing card. Very easy to summon, awesome ATK, Warrior, and locks your opponent's summons down. If this get's released, and does NOT get nerfed, it will become the best LVL 8 Synchro. Ojama Trio + this is an instant 3 turn no opposing monsters. Even Nightmare Archfiends can be useful with this card. And if you combo this with Naturia Bamboo Shoot, you instantly make a total lockdown that can only be broken by effect veiler.

Summarizing, it's a great card that I expect to not be released or get very nerfed.

Akashic Storm! - Ultimate Temporal Machine God Sephiron

Ultimate Temporal Machine God Sephiron
LIGHT/Fairy - Effect/10/4000/4000
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned, except by having 10 or more Monster Cards in your Graveyard. Once per turn, you can Special Summon 1 Level 8 or higher Fairy-Type monster from your hand or Graveyard. Its effect(s) is negated, and its ATK becomes 4000.

Another finall boss of 5D's, alongside the Shooting Quasar Dragon. Seriously Konami, yet another easy to drop 4000 ATK beatstick? Malefic Cyber End Dragon, Meklord Emperor Granel, now this? Works best in High Monster Beat as easily droppable beatstick, or in Kristyasworn, where you can abuse its effect to the max. You can use it there to revive Kristya, Celestia or any Fairy and go for OTK. Could be more searchable, but still not bad. Thanks God that Konami didn't screw it up, like most of other bosses.

Machine Duplication - The Unnoticed Overpowered Card?

Normal Spell Card
Activate only if you control a face-up Machine-type monster with 500 or less ATK. Send that monster to the Graveyard. Roll a six-sided die, and activate the effect corresponding to your roll:
1-2: You win the Duel.
3-4: Special Summon 1 "T. G. Hyper Librarian", 1 "Ancient Sacred Wyvern" and 1 "Red Nova Dragon" or "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck (these Special Summons are treated as Synchro Summons). Send 5 monsters from your Deck to your Graveyard. Send 3 Synchro Monsters from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard. Draw until you have 6 cards in your hand.
5-6: Special Summon 1 Synchro Monster or 1 Exceed Monster from your Extra Deck (this Special Summon is treated as a Synchro Summon or Exceed Summon). Send 2 monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard.

I can't be the only one who finds it odd that a card so highly abusable never gets any attention on the list, and no decks that top run it (except Troop Dupe Scoop, many ages ago). Could this card someday be noticed for how broken it is?

Until it does, decks that can abuse this can have fun with the option to run this at 3.

Give it a try sometime.

(And, before anyone asks... Yes, I've done all of that with this card before.)

Abusing the hell out of Dewloren

Dewloren got finally Unlimited, making the Symbols of Heritage loop possible again. However, Mass Driver got Banned. So, many people asked, what's the point od doing that now? Well, the answer is here:

Pretty awesome, no? I'll make a build for it and show it to you later. Stay tuned :P

Communication problems

We have a big problem - since yesterday, the only way of communication between us 3 is broken, and hell knows when will it work again. So, we won't write as much as before for now. Though it doesn't mean that the blog is being put on halt. Expect something interesting later today :P

Also, am I seeing things, or we got 400 or so more views since yesterday? :D

Meklords and their "weak" bosses

Also, Konami totally blew up with the names

Meklords are the monsters used by the Yliaster members on Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Their anime forms are not in conformation with the real life game, so they had to change the Meklords a lot to release them. The 3 Meklord Emperors, Wisel, Skiel and Granel didn't lose a lot on what refers to effects and stats. But the two bosses, Meklord Astro Mekanikle and Meklord Astro Dragon Asterisk got very watered down.

Let's compare their Anime and Real effects:

Meklord Astro Mekanikle
Machine/Effect
LIGHT/12*/ATK 4000 DEF 4000
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by sending 3 other "Meklord" monsters from your hand to the Graveyard. Once per turn, you can select 1 face-up Synchro Monster your opponent controls, and equip it to this card. This card gains ATK equal to those equipped monsters' combined ATK. Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, you can send 1 of those monsters to the Graveyard to inflict damage to your opponent equal to its ATK. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect.

Machine Imperial God Machinicle Infinity Cubic
Machine/Effect
LIGHT/12*/ATK 4000 DEF 4000
Once per turn, you can equip 1 face-up Synchro Monster your opponent controls to this card. This card gains ATK equal to the combined ATK of all Synchro Monsters equipped to it. You can send 1 "Wisel", "Skiel", or "Granel" monster that includes "Top", "Attack", "Guard", or "Carrier" in its card name from your hand to the Graveyard to have this card gain that monster's effect(s) until the End Phase. If this card would be destroyed by your opponent's attack or card effect, you can remove from play 1 "Wisel", "Skiel", or "Granel" monster that includes "Top", "Attack", "Guard", or "Carrier" in its card name from your Graveyard instead. During your End Phase, you can send a Synchro Monster equipped to this card to the Graveyard and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the original ATK of the Synchro Monster.

 Meklord Astro Dragon Asterisk
Machine/Effect
DARK/10*/ATK 0 DEF 0
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. If you control 3 or more face-up "Meklord" monsters, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. When this card is Special Summoned, select any number of other "Meklord" monsters you control, and send the selected monster(s) to the Graveyard. This card's ATK is equal to the combined original ATK of the sent monster(s). Each time a player Special Summons a Synchro Monster, inflict 1000 damage to that player.

Machine Imperial God Dragon Asterisk
Machine/Effect
DARK/10*/ATK 0 DEF 0
If you control 3 or more face-up "Machine Emperor" or "Machine Imperial" monsters, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. This card's ATK is equal to the combined ATK of all other face-up Attack Position Machine-Type monsters you control. Your opponent cannot select another Machine-Type monster you control as an attack target. If this face-up card would be destroyed by battle or by a card effect, you can send 1 other Machine-Type monster you control to the Graveyard instead. Each time a player Special Summons a Synchro Monster, inflict 1000 damage to that player.

Mekanikle, aside from the horrible name change, got a hard summoning condition. You have to discard 3 Meklords to summon it. That's an instant -3. It can turn itself into a -1 if you steal the opponent's Synchro, but that depends on your opponent HAVING a Synchro out. It can become a big beatstick, with more than 6000 ATK, but it's still suscetible to your opponent's backrow. And during your Standby Phase, you can make it lose ATK to deal damage. But then you can't attack on that turn.

Looking briefly, the only thing that drastically changed is the summoning condition. But, if you look closely, you'll see many other differences. Firstly, the anime one is pratically invincible, because if it would be destroyed, you just had to remove 1 of the parts of fallen Machine Emperors to prevent the destruction. Also, you could use the burn effect AND attack on the same turn. If it kept these effects (except, of course, removing Meklords insteads of the parts becuase the parts are only in the anime) and the current summoning condition, then it would be decent.

Asterisk, on the other hand, is a totally different monster from its anime version. To summon Asterisk in the real life, you have to ditch 3 Meklords for it  to gain ATK, while the anime one doesn't need to sacrifice the other Machine Soldiers. Plus, the Asterisk used by Aporia has two other effects that the real life one doesn't have: your opponent cannot attack another Machine monster and if it would be destroyed, you could just dispose of 1 other Machine you control. That would make the card much more interesting and playable. And the last effect is equal for both versions: Each time a Synchro Summon happens, the player who tuned takes 1000 damage. That's not good in nowadays meta, where card advantage is much more important than Life Points.

The Meklord Emperors and Meklord Army are monsters that didn't lose much from their anime counterparts, except of course on the names. But the "Astros" got very nerfed and became quite obsolete. Konami messed up again because they turned the bosses from great cards to almost useless ones. It has happened a lot of times though, but this level of watering down is over the limits, in my opinion. Mainly on Mekanikle. What about your opinion? Do you think that the Meklords got too much nerfed? Leave a comment!

Holy Random Pile of Batman - 60 card themless highlander

Written on friend's request

"The closer to 40 cards, the better". How many times did you hear that when building your Deck? I bet many times. While that is true, it doesn't mean that decks with over 40 cards are bad. The prime example of it is 60 card themless highlander. (60CTH for short) What is it you might ask? The name is self-explanatory. It plays 60 cards, has no theme, and is highlander, means that it plays no more than 1 copy of each card. However, it doesn't mean that it just plays 60 completly random cards with no real strategy, like most decks of new players. To help you grasp the concept, here is the example build:

36
-----Level 7+
1 Beast King Barbaros
1 Dark Armed Dragon
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
1 Light and Darkness Dragon
-----Level 5-6
1 Caius the Shadow Monarch
1 Cyber Dragon
1 Dark Dust Spirit
1 Power Giant
1 Quickdraw Synchron
-----Level 1-4
1 Battle Fader
1 Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind
1 Blackwing - Zephyrus the Elite
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 Card Guard
1 Card Trooper
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 Dandylion
1 Debris Dragon
1 Dimensional Alchemist
1 Don Zaloog
1 Effect Veiler
1 Genex Ally Birdman
1 Glow-Up Bulb
1 Injection Fairy Lily
1 Kinka-Byo
1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
1 Meklord Emperor Wisel
1 Morphing Jar
1 Neo-Spacian Grand Mole
1 Plaguespreader Zombie
1 Sangan
1 Snowman Eater
1 Spirit Reaper
1 Symphonic Warrior Basses
1 Thunder King Rai-Oh
1 Unknown Synchron

12
1 Allure of Darkness
1 Book of Moon
1 Dark Hole
1 Foolish Burial
1 Forbidden Chalice
1 Forbidden Lance
1 Giant Trunade
1 Monster Reborn
1 One for One
1 Pot of Avarice
1 Pot of Duality
1 Scapegoat

12
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Compulsory Evacuation Devive
1 Dark Bribe
1 Dimensional Prison
1 Malevolent Catastrophe
1 Mind Crush
1 Mirror Force
1 Sakuretsu Armor
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Solemn Warning
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Trap Dustshoot

15
1 Armory Arm
1 Black Rose Dragon
1 Blackwing Armor Master
1 Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1 Colossal Fighter
1 Drill Warrior
1 Formula Synchron
1 Junk Gardna
1 Locomotion R-Genex
1 Scrap Dragon
1 Shooting Star Dragon
1 Stardust Dragon
1 T.G. Hyper Librarian
1 Thought Ruler Archfiend
1 Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier

The pro of 60CTH are the fact that it's pretty much impossible to side against. And to easily handles commonly used stuff like Chain Dissapearance of Effect Veiler. Also, it's a very versalite deck, as you can include pretty much everything in it.

Excluding 60CTH, there are crapload of possible 60 card highlanders variants, but quoting my friend:
I tried 60 card ratbox highlander, 60 card zombie highlander, 60 card high monster beat highlander, 60 card chaos highlander, 60 card high monster beat chaos highlander, 60 card plant highlander, 60 card DARK highlander, 60 card machine highlander, 60 card Gravekeeper highlander, 60 card monarch highlander, 60 card synchro-heavy highlander, 60 card WATER highlander, and a few other builds that never really got through the first few duels. They occasionally showed a fun combo or something, but all performed worse than 60 card themeless highlander.

But in all seriousness, the deck is actually pretty good and playable. Give it a try sometimes.

Exceeds: getting the torch from Synchros

Exceeds are a new type of monster of the Extra Deck. They are summoned by having the specified number of monsters of the same level on the field. To summon an Exceed monster, you place the Exceed Material monsters on a stack, and place the Exceed monster on the top of the stack. The Exceed Materials are not sent to the Graveyard, they stay beneath the Exceed monster.
For now, the 3 above pictures show the best Exceed monsters so far. Mainspring Armored Zenmeister, Vylon Disigma and No. 39 Aspiring Emperor Hope. Let's have a look at what they do:

Mainspring Armored Zenmeister
Machine/Exceed/Effect
EARTH/Rank 4/ATK 1900 DEF 1500
2 Level 4 Monsters
This card gains 300 ATK for each of its Exceed Material Monsters. Once per turn, you can remove 1 Exceed Material Monster from this card to select 1 face-up monster on the field. Flip that monster to face-down Defense Position. During the End Phase, the selected monster is flipped to face-up Attack Position.

Vylon Disigma
Fairy/Exceed/Effect
LIGHT/Rank 4/ATK 2500 DEF 2100
3 Level 4 Monsters
Once per turn, you can remove 1 Exceed Material Monster from this card to select 1 face-up Attack Position Effect Monster your opponent controls, and equip it to this card as an Equip Card. When this card battles a monster that has the same Attribute as a monster equipped to this card by this card's effect, destroy that monster at the start of the Damage Step (without Damage Calculation).

No. 39 Aspiring Emperor Hope
Warrior/Exceed/Effect
LIGHT/Rank 4/ATK 2500 DEF 2000
2 Level 4 Monsters
When a monster declares an attack, you can remove 1 of this card's Exceed Material Monster to negate that attack. When this card is selected as an attack target while it has no Exceed Material Monsters, destroy it.

Zenmeister is possibly the best Exceed so far. It's a 2500 beatstick when summoned. But it's second effect is the most interesting one: at the cost of 300 ATK, it can do a Book of Moon until the End Phase. Mainsprings have very powerful effects, but can use them only once while they remain face-up. With Zenmeister, you can reset your Mainspring and use it's effect again! But that's not all; you can use the effect to flip face-down a big monster your opponent controls or re-use flip effects.

Disigma is also a great monster: it can steal an Effect monster from your foe and get protection from the stolen's monster attribute. But the best part is that it can use that effect 3 times and become a mini-catastor.

Hope is Yuma's ace card, and like Yusei's Stardust, it has a cool effect that can negate up to 2 attacks. But unlike the other 2 Exceeds I mentioned, it has a drawback: if it's attacked while having no Exceed Materials, it's destroyed. Still, a 2500 ATK beater that negates attacks is always nice. And being needed 2 Level 4s makes it even better.

Synchros changed the meta and made cards that we never thought to use, playable. If exceeds are going to do the same, we don't know yet. But these 3 monsters may start the same revolution Synchros did.

Limit Over Accel Synchro! The Light of Evolution, Shooting Quasar Dragon! - Decklist

14
3 Enemy Controller
2 Pot of Avarice

1 Monster Reborn
1 Moray of Greed

15
2 Formula Synchron
2 Shooting Quasar Dragon
2 T.G. Hyper Librarian
1 Ally of Justice Catastor
1 Armory Arm
1 Black Rose Dragon
1 Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1 Colossal Fighter
1 Scrap Dragon
1 Shooting Star Dragon
1 Stardust Dragon
1 T.G. Halberd Cannon

The promised SQD Turbo. While may not look like it, it's summons it fairly easy. The main combo is to:

1. Get Treeborn, Fishborg and Ariel to Graveyard
Really easily done. Treeborn can be dumped with Swap Frog, and you can discard Fishborg to drop Swap. Eventually, use Foolish Burial. Also, Ariel searches out the next combo part after she dies, so its relatively easy to assemble the combo.
2. During your Standby Phase, Summon Treeborn Frog
3. Discard something to revive Fishborg Blaster
4. Normal Summon Gishki Beast, reviving Ariel
Easy to do, as Ariel searches out Beast after she's flipped.
5. Tune Fishborg with Beast/Ariel to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian
6. Revive Fishborg again
7. Tuner into another Librarian and draw 1 from Librarian's effect
You only get to draw from the one that is already on the field
8. Revive Fishborg last time
9. Tune into Formula Synchron, draw 3 cards
1 from Formula, 2 from both Librarians
10. Believe in Nexus
11. Tune all 3 monsters into Shooting Quasar.
12. Win the game

As you can see, Summoning it is really easy, as assembling the combo is piece of cake. Also, you lost almost no card advantage. Ignoring the resoruces needed to gather the combo:

Revive Treeborn (+1)
Revive Fishborg (+0)
Summon Beast (+1)
Synchro into Librarian (-1)
Revive Fishborg (+0)
Synchro another Librarian (-1)
Draw 1 from Librarian's effect (+1)
Revive Fishborg (+0)
Synchro into Formula (-1)
Draw 3 cards (+3)
Summon Quasar (-2)

So, it's...+1 in total. Yes, you heard me right. You just Summoned a badass Synchro and got 1 more card.

So, that would be all on this deck. If you want, you can include some Rank 4 Exceeds in your Extra Deck, as Beast makes them instantly.

Over Top Clear Mind! - Shooting Quasar Dragon

Shooting Quasar Dragon
LIGHT/Dragon - Synchro - Effect/12/4000/4000
1 Tuner Synchro Monster + 2 or more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters
This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Synchro Summon. This card can attack a number of times during the Battle Phase equal to the number of non-Tuner monsters used as Synchro Material Monsters. Once per turn, you can negate the activation of a Spell Card, Trap Card or Effect Monster's effect and destroy it. When this card is removed from the field, you can Special Summon 1 "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck.

It's funny as it's technically a Stardust evolution, though Yusei didn't use Stardust to summon it. Eitther way, releasing this now was just stupid. I mean, few weeks ago, we got T.G. Halberd Cannon, which has the same Synchro Materials and stats, but far inferior effect to this. I mean, how can you compare a card with built-in once-per-turn Summon negation to a pure OTK machine? On the card itself, it's easy as hell to Summon in Fish, Flamvells or Cloudians. If you use only 3 monsters to Summon it, it's still a double-attacker that can do 8000 damage on clear field. It also lols at Mirror Force etc. And even if your opponent is stupid enough to use up 2 Dimensional Prisons on it, you still get a free Shooting Star. What not to love?

Stay tuned today for Shooting Quasar Dragon Turbo.
